FERMA Launches Professional Certification for Risk Managers

At its opening session today (5 October), the Federation of European Risk Management Associations (FERMA) formally launched its programme of European Certification for professional risk managers, with the award of Founder Certifications to 49 risk professionals who have contributed to its development. The programme, to be called rimap®, is the first such designation and is designed to reinforce the standing of the profession in Europe.

It will provide independent confirmation of the professional competences, experience and standards of individual risk managers, and accreditation for the risk management programmes of educational bodies. At its opening session today, the Federation of European Risk Management Associations (FERMA) formally launched its programme of European Certification for professional risk managers, with the award of Founder Certifications to 49 risk professionals who have contributed to its development. The programme, to be called rimap®, is the first such designation and is designed to reinforce the standing of the profession in Europe.

FERMA intends to open applications for Certification in early 2016, with the first awards expected in the spring. FERMA board member Michel Dennery, Chair of the FERMA Certification Steering Committee, said: ”Today, there is a strong expectation from stakeholders about risk management; that is why we have created the first high level pan-European recognition of the profession of risk management that will respond to these expectations. These Founder Certifications will be ambassadors for rimap.”

Michel also announced that the Pan-Asia Risk and Insurance Management Association (PARIMA) will partner with FERMA to develop Certification in its region.

As a follow-up to the morning ceremony, ten FERMA national associations attended an informal workshop on the Certification materials now available under the official brand rimap. This is part of the close collaboration that FERMA has maintained for the last two years with its members. From now, national risk management events will display rimap adverts and flyers.

Michel Dennery and Certification project manager Julien Bedhouche from FERMA presented the latest marketing materials as well as the body of knowledge, code of ethics and continuous professional development. They are all now available online at www.rimap-certified.org .

The way forward is now clear for FERMA and its national associations: complete the seven rimap reference guides, which will become the basis for rimap candidates and education bodies like universities and business schools to prepare their application and become respectively certified and accredited.
